In April of 1938, Nowlin Puckett opened Lynchburg Camera Shop on Seventh Street in downtown Lynchburg, Virginia. Shortly thereafter, he moved the business to a larger storefront on Church Street. In addition to photographic equipment, he also sold models and magic tricks. Through the 1940’s and 50’s, it was common for local youngsters to gather on Saturday mornings at The Camera Shop to watch full length 16mm movies.
The business moved to a larger location on Ninth Street in 1960. When Nowlin retired in September of 1972, his son Bill took over the operation of the company. The Camera Shop continued to grow, and in 1983, we moved to our present location on Main Street.
Together, Nowlin, Bill, and their employees have guided generations of their customers through a dramatic evolution in photography.
Today we pride ourselves in continuing to provide the latest in technology to our many loyal customers.
We invite you to join in the journey with us.
